In 1827, Johann Baptist Friedreich (1796–1862) founded the Philosophical-Medical Society of Würzburg, which was integrated into the Physico-Medical Society in 1853. Prior to this, there were two attempts to establish an official periodical as the publication organ of the Society: In 1828, three issues of the Yearbooks of the Philosophical-Medical Society were published before another brief attempt was made in 1830 with the release of the New Yearbooks of the Royal Philosophical-Medical Society of Würzburg.
