The Digital Journal Collection of the University Library Würzburg
The Digital Journal Collection offers access to and reusability of academic journals from the holdings of the University Library of Würzburg (UBW), following the principles of Open Access. This platform and tool enable the University Library to adhere to the Open Access Policy of the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg and to present historical journal collections to a wide audience.
The expansion of the Digital Journal Collection is aligned with the institutional collection mandate of the University Library and is carried out in coordination with the journal publishers. Members of the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg who wish to have an academic journal digitised and made available online are encouraged to contact us.

Yearbooks of the Philosophical-Medical Society of Würzburg
In 1827, Johann Baptist Friedreich (1796–1862) founded the Philosophical-Medical Society of Würzburg, which was incorporated into the Physico-Medical Society in 1853. Prior to this, there were two attempts to establish a dedicated periodical as the Society’s publication organ: in 1828, three issues of the Yearbooks of the Philosophical-Medical Society were published, followed by another brief attempt in 1830 with the publication of the New Yearbooks of the Royal Philosophical-Medical Society of Würzburg.

New Yearbooks of the Philosophical-Medical Society of Würzburg

Proceedings of the Physico-Medical Society of Würzburg
The Proceedings served as the scientific organ for publishing the original research findings of the Physico-Medica between 1850 and 1860. Additionally, printed reports of meetings for the years 1849 to 1859 were published in the journal. From the society year 1852 onwards, these reports were compiled in a separate section.

Proceedings of the Physico-Medical Society of Würzburg / New Series
In 1869, the first volume of the New Series of the Proceedings of the Physico-Medical Society was published. From that time until 1936, the journal once again served as the primary scientific platform for the dissemination of the original research findings of the Physico-Medica. Moreover, printed minutes from meetings held between the years 1868/69 and 1934/35 were also included in the journal. At times, the Proceedings featured various supplements, such as the Medical Statistics of the City of Würzburg (1871-1898), Pharmacological Investigations (1873-1882), and a report on the psychiatric ward of the Julius Hospital (1870).

Würzburg Medicinal Journal
The Würzburg Medicinal Journal was published by the Physical-Medicinal Society of Würzburg from 1860 to 1866. In addition to specialized articles, it also included the proceedings of the Physico-Medica for the years 1860 to 1864/65 as well as the society's annual reports. The journal was discontinued after the seventh volume.

Würzburger Journal of Natural Sciences
The Würzburger Journal of Natural Sciences was published by the Physico-Medical Society of Würzburg between 1860 and 1866/67. Alongside specialized articles, it also featured the meeting reports of the Physico-Medica for the years 1860 to 1865/66, as well as the Society's annual reports. The journal ceased publication with the sixth volume.
