Altfränkische Bilder (Old Franconian Images) is described as an "art historical masterpiece calendar" (as stated on the cover). It was first published in 1894 for the year 1895 by the Stürtz Publishing House in Würzburg. Publication was only interrupted during the war and post-war years from 1942 to 1948. Since its 63rd edition in 1964, it was published under the title Altfränkische Bilder und Wappenkalender (Old Franconian Images and Coat of Arms Calender). The periodical was discontinued by the publisher with its 90th edition in 1991 (published in 1990). However, since 2005, a new series of Altfränkische Bilder has been published under the self-publishing arm of the Society for Franconian History, beginning with Volume 1 (2006).
