From the journal's founding until his death in 1928, Prof. Dr. Theodor Henner served as editor and sole author. Born on September 28, 1851, in Würzburg, his father, Georg Henner, a government director, became chairman of the Historical Society for Lower Franconia and Aschaffenburg in 1874. Theodor Henner studied history in Würzburg, Munich, and Göttingen, followed by his doctorate and habilitation in Würzburg. In 1875, he delivered his first lecture and remained at the University of Würzburg until his retirement in 1926.

In 1888, Theodor Henner succeeded his late father as chairman of the Historical Society. In 1904, he co-founded the Society for Franconian History. Henner passed away on December 15, 1928, in Würzburg.
